In 2377, The Federation, Klingon, Romulan Alliance defeated the Dominion in orbit of Cardassia Prime, handing them the first defeat it has ever had in its existance. Peace had returned to the Alpha and Beta Quadrants. Two years after the Dominion’s defeat, Shinzon of Remus had a majority of the Romulan Senate assassinated and took over as Preator of the Romulan Star Empire.
Shinzon had then made contact with the Federation, requesting talks that would improve the Federation/Romulan relations. Vice Admiral Kathryn Janeway assigned the USS Enterprise-E to meet with Shinzon. There, Captain Jean-Luc Picard and crew encountered the Reman vessel Scimitar, described as a predator by Captain Picard. After learning of Shinzon’s plans, the Enterprise attempted to meet with 6 other ships that were part of the Enterprise’s battlegroup durring the Dominion War. Unfortunately, it was destroyed in the Bassen Rift. That same battle had severly crippled the Scimitar, putting Shinzon’s plans for the Federation on hold.
Two years later, the Reman government had finally quelled rebellious factions within the Star Empire and lauched another Scimitar class vessel, immediately setting its sights on Earth. Although it was lacking the thaloron core that was in the original Scimitar and the fact that the Federation was more prepared than it was durring Shinzon’s original attempt, it was still able to push through the Federation’s defense lines and inflict severe damage to Earth and its orbital defenses before it was destroyed. A Romulan fleet followed two days later and immediately took control of the Sol system.
In the years that followed, the Romulans had forced the Klingon Empire back into its own territory and forced the remanent forces of Starfleet back towards the the Bajoran system, one of a number of systems that had declared neutrality in the conflict.
The USS Raptor, commanded by Captain Brenna Blacklance, led the Federation’s Eleventh Fleet. Although the fleet she commanded was successful in many encounters with the Romulans, they were fighting a loosing battle. The USS Alceste, commanded by Captain Mariko Toranaga, was a ship and crew that never saw the fall of the Federation, having been caught in a temporal time loop durring the Dominion war. Having gotten out of the time loop, they had a lot of catching up to do, but very little time to do it.
In 2383, two years after the fall of the United Federation of Planets to the Romulan Star Empire, the remenant Starfleet forces were now being led by Admiral Janeway. After meeting with the remaining members of the Federation’s and Starfleet’s leadership, it was decided that the Federation and Starfleet would retreat through the Bajoran Wormhole, limiting the Star Empire’s options on attacking the Federation and allowing it to rebuild and regroup. It was also decided that a small group of ships would attempt to reach the Delta Quadrant and establish themselves there. The risk was high, but one Captains Toranaga and Blacklance were willing to try.
It is now 2385. Captains Toranaga and Blacklance were successful in reaching the Delta Quadrant. The fleet, now under the command of Fleet Captain Derrick Blacklance, is now tasked with a new job, first contact with the many species, both known and unknown, that inhabit the Delta Quadrant.
